Buyers come for that setting and for a commute that still works: Georgetown GO and Acton GO are on the Kitchener line, Highway 7 runs through town, and Trafalgar Road connects to Highway 401.

Buying a Home in Georgetown

Georgetown's housing tells the story of how the town grew, and each era comes with its own questions.

• Downtown and the original streets. The oldest homes sit around Main Street and Church Street, with a later railway era section around King and Queen Streets. Older homes reward a careful inspection of wiring, plumbing, foundations and past renovations.
• Delrex and Moore Park. Delrex was built in the 1950s by Rex Heslop, and Moore Park followed in 1962. Expect solid postwar homes on established lots, often ready for updates.
• Georgetown South and Trafalgar Country. Georgetown South began in 1989, and Trafalgar Country was added in the mid 1990s and early 2000s at the west end. Newer construction usually means fewer surprises behind the walls, but roofs, furnaces and windows from those years may now be reaching replacement age, so price that into your offer.
• Rural Halton Hills. For properties outside the urban areas, confirm whether the home is on municipal water and sewer or private services, and whether Greenbelt, Niagara Escarpment or conservation authority rules affect what you can build later.

Selling a Home in Georgetown

Many buyers looking at Georgetown are moving from Brampton, Mississauga or Toronto. They compare your home with what their money buys closer in, so show them what Georgetown adds: the GO connection, trails like Hungry Hollow and the nearby Bruce Trail, and the downtown around Main Street with its Saturday farmers' market from June to October.

Pricing should rest on recent sales in your own part of town. A Delrex bungalow and a Georgetown South two storey are different markets, even a few minutes apart. If your home is older or has historic features, check its heritage status with the Town early so it does not surprise a buyer's lawyer.

Renting and Landlords in Halton Hills

Halton Hills now permits additional residential units in its serviced urban areas, under rules that took effect on December 9, 2024. Before anyone moves in, the Town's ARU By-law 2023-0060 requires the unit to be registered. Key points:

• A home can have up to two ARUs inside the main dwelling, or one inside plus one in a detached accessory building.
• Registration includes Town inspections and an Electrical Safety Authority inspection, and there is a fee.
• The site plan must show two parking spaces for the main unit and one for each ARU.
• Registered units appear on the Town's public ARU registry.
